Symbols for Concentrations

If you have started here without reading the previous page which introduces these concentrations, please do so before actually doing any work with these symbols. It is called concentrations. It has some information about how to draw out and use these symbols; and should give a little perspective on both their use and concentrations in general.

Following are several symbols to use for concentrations. Draw each one on a separate sheet of paper approximately 8 to 9 inches square. It is preferable to use them in order unless you are strongly, clearly, and intuitively drawn in another order. Use a strong black line in drawing these.

There is no discussion of the meaning of these symbols here, but only a small reference to each. Use the symbol and concentration daily for a time until you feel you have gone as far as you can now. Then go on to the next. You do not have to sit for a long time at each concentration. Rather it is more important to have a good focus for any time. It is the quality of the experience that counts. 5 to 10 minutes should suffice. If you don't get it after that, then try again the next day. This does not mean you have "failed" in the practice, but only that you are gently giving yourself the opportunity to come closer to it.
