Spiritual Practices, Exercises, and Meditations
The "Medicine Cabinet"

A little about practices or exercises, and a note of caution

Spiritual practices are useful and appropriate only when they are, and are not to be used indescriminately. They are medicines and/or supplements. A practice or exercise is given by someone who can determine if it is needed and how to apply it. They must be correct for the individual or group, and need to be used in the correct manner, "dosage" in the right ways, and for the appropriate length of time. For best use, they should be monitored. Using a practice without knowing IF it should be used, and how it should or may work is like taking medication randomly. As I wrote in the Beginning page, I considered for a while if I wanted to include these at all. Mainly because practices or exercises are best used when given on an individual basis by someone who is actually working with and assisting that person. I finally decided to include this section primarily for reference and potentially for the use of one who is working in this field, or in the rare instance that one of you may contact me for some assistance. I have removed many practices that are best done and conveyed through personal contact, even though they can be interesting. These usually revolve around those that need attuning to the leader to "catch". There are; however, themes for concentration, meditation, or contemplation included throughout the writings. You will find many in the writing "About Teaching and Learning". I find these are generally useful and not harmful, so include them for the reader to use. In themselves, they can be a very useful course for potential learning. That is of course if they are actually considered, used and applied.

When I speak about a person who can prescribe a practice to someone else, I refer to one who guides and really knows what he or she is doing, and can apply the practice appropriately - which means also in the correct way, time, and manner. This personal, at a minimum, needs to have used the practice to its completion. If not, he or she has no business applying it for another. That is not the case in many situations. Many times a practice is offered because someone else did that previously or it was considered in that "non-teaching grouping" (which is different than a group) that is was appropriate for everyone. Perhaps it was offered because the "non-guide" found it useful for himself or herself and then figured it would be good for anyone. That is almost never the case.

In addition, most folks I have observed or come across generally want "something to do" - especially if it can be flashy and "spiritual". Usually what a person is drawn to is NOT what he or she actually needs. Be aware that even if you are is drawn to something, or want it, that is not an indication that it is appropriate for you at the time. It takes a real guide to help determine that. However, he or she must actually, not theoretically, be aware of the condition of the person he or she is working with, and be aware of what that person needs at that time. Then, and only then, can an appropriate practice be prescribed. There are many situations in which the "practice" can best be not doing anything of a so-called spiritual nature. Sometimes the best thing for a person can seems quite mundane or something to do in daily life. There can be many reasons for this. It is then up to the guided one to try and follow it - having the faith and trust that it is correct for him or her - instead of what is desired.

This section includes some writings about the use of practices plus many practices. Because they are here does not mean you should apply them. If you are drawn to one you will need to use your intuition and guidance to help determine IF you should do it. You have intuition and guidance, certainly. It is only a matter of if you actually clearly listen and apply it. Before trying something, I suggest you attempt to put aside any attraction to it and ask yourself - and then really consider - if it is appropriate for you now or not. Then, try to follow that feeling. If you still have difficulty determining what to do, feel free to contact me and ask. The general "problem", in simply following what you are drawn to, desire to do, or intrigues you is generally NOT an appropiate reason to do it. There are many other practices not contained on this web site. You would really be best off working with someone who knows. Unknowing application is not only futile, but may be harmful to your health.

Practices shown below "generally should" be all right for MOST people. However, AGAIN, it would be best to consider deeply if one is appropriate for you. If you have questions or a request for an appropriate practice please contact me. I will respond privately.
